Small Engine Won T Start With Starting Fluid. Joined jun 29, 2010 · 2 posts. The engine turned over, and would run for about three seconds, presumably just burning the starter fluid as the fuel.

I have 95' trailboss 250. Only 2 reasons that it won't start but runs fine. When a small engine won't start, the usual suspects are bad gasoline, a corroded or plugged carburetor, or a bad ignition coil.
Its A Honda Gxv (390 I Believe).
2) idle circuit in carb partially blocked. At the very least, the first application of a burst of starter fluid should cause the engine to show a little bit of life and sputter. The way i got the engine started was by taking off the air filter and spraying alot of starter fluid in it.
3) Bad Fuel That No Longer Has The Highly Volatile Aromatics That Evaporate At Room Temperature So A Cold Engine Can Start.

After Tinkering Around For A Bit, I Was Able To Get The Engine Started.
When a small engine won't start, the usual suspects are bad gasoline, a corroded or plugged carburetor, or a bad ignition coil. 1) choke not closing fully / primer not working. By the diy experts of the family handyman magazine.
